Urea Cycle Disorders

Urea Cycle Disorders
The body uses protein for growth and repair. In Urea Cycle Disorders (UCDs), due to the lack of an enzyme, the body has difficulty in removing excess dietary protein from the body. People with UCDs therefore need to restrict the amount of protein they eat.

In some cases, restriction of dietary protein may lead to a shortage of essential amino acids (the building blocks of protein). The restricted diet may also lead to individuals not getting enough micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and trace elements). It may be necessary to supplement the diet with essential amino acids (EAA) and micronutrients.

Vitaflo® produces a range of age-specific, lifestyle-friendly and palatable protein substitutes for UCD.
