When in consultation with their healthcare professional, mothers and families find that optimal breastfeeding is not possible due to their infant’s medical condition, formulas for special medical purposes play a vital role in providing essential nutrients to infants. We have a global commitment to market breast-milk substitutes responsibly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What tin size is Alfamino® available in?

  • A 400g re-sealable tin.

Does Alfamino® contain cows' milk, soy or coconut?

  • No, Alfamino® is free from cows' milk, soy and coconut.

What are structured lipids?

  • Studies have shown that infants fed a formula containing structured lipids† vs. those on a standard infant formula have had improved bone mineral density and calcium absorption, softer stool consistency and reduced crying time.4 Structured lipids unique structure is designed to mimic the composition of breastmilk and is rare in standard vegetable oils. They are less likely to form insoluble soaps which are more likely to be malabsorbed, reducing calcium and fat absorption and producing uncomfortable, harder stools.5

Important Notice:

Mothers should be encouraged to continue breastfeeding even when their infants have cows’ milk protein allergy. This usually requires qualified dietary counselling to completely exclude all sources of cows’ milk protein from the mothers’ diet. If a decision to use a special formula intended for infants is taken, it is important to give instructions on correct preparation methods, emphasising that unboiled water, unsterilised bottles or incorrect dilution can all lead to illness. Formula for special medical purposes intended for infants must be used under medical supervision. For healthcare professionals only.
